The address in L.M. Montgomery's writing appears to be on a label that has been affixed on top of a previous address that bears the postdate June 22, 1942. Although it is mostly covered, it appears that the previous envelope was addressed to a "...Stewart." Stewart is likely the last name of the original addressee. The postdate on the label with George Boyd MacMillan's address reads August 12 with an indecipherable year. The stamp has been removed.

- Abstract
-
An envelope addressed in L.M. Montgomery's handwriting addressed to "Geo. B. MacMillan". George Boyd MacMillan (1881-1953) was a Scottish journalist and writer, and a favourite correspondent of L.M. Montgomery. The two were first introduced, by letter, in 1903, through an American writer who was developing a circle of literary pen friends. Although Montgomery and MacMillan only met briefly in-person, during her 1911 honeymoon in Scotland, their voluminous exchange of letters, postcards, and gifts continued until late 1941, just months before Montgomery's death. This envelope was separated from its accompanying letter and contains several notes in pencil in George Boyd MacMillan's writing, specifically, it bears the message "answered 25/11/1943" which was almost a year after L.M. Montgomery's death.
