Dedham, Mass. Fairbanks House, Built 1636 postcard.
L.M. Montgomery Institute. Ryrie-Campbell Collection. Stage and Screen.
Donated by Donna Jane Campbell.
568 MMM-PC-Fairbanks House
A black and white photograph of the Fairbanks House in Dedham, Massachusetts, the oldest timber-frame building in New England. Construction began approximately in 1636 and ended in 1641, although these dates are debated. The house was used as a location in the Realart Pictures Corp. production of the 1919 silent film "Anne of Green Gables" starring Mary Miles Minter. On the back of the postcard is the inscription: "Where I saw them take the moving picture 'Anne of Green Gables'" but there is no signature. Printed on the back it also reads: "Printed for the Fairbanks Family in America".
